What a busy month it has been for Fundraising!

September has been an incredibly busy time for Fundraising. We had a group of 20 people take part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on the 4th. The aim was to complete the three highest peaks in Yorkshire (Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) in 12 hours. The challenge is about 25 miles and takes in over 5,000 feet, 1600 of which is climbing – no easy achievement! Ewen, our first challenger to cross the line, completed the trek in less than 8 hours – he ran the last peak! Two of our members, Tony and Pam, took part in the challenge and whilst they didn’t manage to complete the whole 3 peaks in one day had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The group raised well over £8,000 for NRAS – with still more coming in daily so a huge thank you to you all.

We would like to make the Yorkshire Three Peaks, along with Mount Kilimanjaro, NRAS challenges for 2011 so please do get in touch if you would like to take part in either of these events, the more the merrier!

Our other main event this month was the iconic Great North Run on the 19th. We had a team of 24 runners representing NRAS, more than any other year. I went along with my friend Gill who kindly volunteered to keep me company and meet our runners. Whilst the weather wasn’t ideal the race was fantastic, with a sea of people in space blankets finishing in South Shields. Meeting some of the people who have fundraised for us was really special for me, I would like to thank you all for working so hard with sponsorship and for taking part in a 13.5 mile run (they must have been mad!). Sponsorship is still coming in so watch this space for how much was raised.

If you would like to take part in next year’s race (date to be confirmed) please do let me know as I would be happy to reserve you a place (we already have 4 people signed up for next year – places go very quickly so don’t delay).

Don’t forget the NRAS Christmas Carol Concert which takes place on the 10th December at All Saints Church in Maidenhead. We do hope that you can stay to join us for a glass of wine and a mince pie after the concert.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those who raise money for NRAS, whether it be within your local community taking part in a fun run, or holding a fete, whatever it is we are so very grateful to you. Without your support we would not be able to continue our work.

Keep on doing what you do!

Val and all the Fundraising team at NRAS.
