'Happy New Year!' by Emma Seymour

Whether it’s giving up chocolate/alcohol, joining a gym or quitting smoking, most people want to make a fresh start when it the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve. However, often these New Year’s resolutions barely last the first weeks of January (as I’ve found so many times in the past!)

So this year, I’m trying to make my resolution manageable. Last year I made the big move of buying my own house so this year my plan is to grow some herbs and plant a vegetable garden. I’m trying not to be too ambitious with what I can grow or trying to introduce too many varieties. I’ll try my best but I know there’s no guarantee they won’t end up looking shrivelled and half-dead! For me, resolutions should be more something that you’ve been thinking about for a while but haven’t quite got around to (and I have SO many of them so it’s good to get at least 1 of them off my list!)

What are your New Years’ Resolutions?

• Have you thought about holding a NRAS tea party? A great way to start the New Year by gathering all your friends and family together and raising funds at the same time. More information is available here (although we also have lots of challenge events for those made people who have made resolutions to run a half marathon/10k/skydive!)

• Have you seen our magazine and thought, “I’d like to receive that” but haven’t quite got round to joining NRAS? Why not join online now and receive the latest edition which is due out next week!

• Have you been thinking about going along to one of our group meetings, but somehow not found the time? Lots of new group meeting dates have recently been announced and there are also new groups in the planning stages so do keep an eye on our website for further news.

• Have you thought about saving money by buying your Christmas Cards in the sales? We have packs reduced to just £2 in our NRAS ebay shop.

Why not make 2013 the year you get more involved with NRAS – visit our website www.nras.org.uk or call us on 0845 458 3969 to find out more. Even if just in a small way, it really does make a difference and helps us to continue working for a better life for people with RA.

Happy New Year from all of the NRAS team :o)

Best wishes
